Design & history

The Buccaneer 18 prototype debuted at Yachting Magazine's 'One of a Kind' Regatta in 1967, placing second overall. It was produced by multiple builders over decades, including Chrysler Corporation, Texas Marine Industries, Wellcraft Marine, Gloucester Yachts, Cardinal Yachts, and ultimately Nickels Boatworks, which merged with WindRider in 2015.

Production

Chrysler Corporation built hull #1 thru approx. #4050 (1968-1980, just over 4000 boats). Texas Marine Industries (TMI) built hull approx. #4051 thru approx. #4750 (1981-1982, around 700 boats). Wellcraft Marine Corporation, Starwind Division built hull approx. #4751 thru approx. #5000 (1982-1984, approx. 250 boats). Gloucester Yachts sold as GLOUCESTER 18, hull #5001 thru #5059 (1985-1986, 59 boats). Cardinal Yachts built hull #5060 thru #5065, #5100 thru #5106 and #5200 thru #5214 (1987-2000, 28 boats). Nickels Boatworks became official builder in 2008. Nickels Boatworks merged with WindRider in 2015.
