The Maxi Yachts 84 is a masthead sloop designed by Pelle Petterson and built by Maxi Yachts and Borjesson Brothers between 1977 and 1983. This fin-keel sailboat measures 8.5 meters LOA with a 3.0-meter beam, a 1.5-meter draft, and displaces 3000 kg. Aboard the Maxi 84 *Maximus*, the *practicalboatowner* crew measured the rig for new sails, noting that retrofitted furling gear can alter luff length and that precise manual measurements are necessary due to potential aftermarket modifications.1:39 They specified a two-reef mainsail and a 130–135% LP roller-furling genoa, explaining that the genoa must perform across a 5 to 25 knot wind range.8:30 The crew also considered a crosscut polyester mainsail and a radial-cut polyester-Vectran hybrid headsail, with Vectran chosen for its stretch resistance.19:57
