To prevent dragging, deploy significantly more chain than standard ratios suggest; using 50 meters of chain in 6 meters of water creates a heavy catenary that acts as a shock absorber, keeping the anchor buried during violent gusts.

Secure the vessel by transferring load from the windlass to a snubber or chain hook to prevent gear failure. Lash the furled headsail with extra lines, stow the tender on deck, and tightly wrap biminis into a compact, rigid cylinder to eliminate windage.
