Preparing a vessel for 45-knot winds requires a departure from standard textbook anchoring procedures to prioritize shock absorption and security. To prevent dragging, deploy significantly more chain than standard ratios suggest; using 50 meters of chain in 6 meters of water creates a heavy catenary that acts as a shock absorber, keeping the anchor buried during violent gusts.

Secure the vessel by transferring load from the windlass to a snubber or chain hook to prevent gear failure.
