The Beneteau 40 is a 12.1-meter fractional sloop designed by Berret-Racoupeau, built by Beneteau since 2007, and also known as the Oceanis 40 outside the US. It features a fin with bulb and spade rudder hull, a 3.9-meter beam, a 1.9-meter draft, and displaces 8259 kg. A similar version was sold as the Moorings 41.3, and an optional shallow draft of 1.55 meters is available. The Beneteau 40 typically sails at six to seven knots, with 10–15 degrees of heel.1:58 It offers more interior space, cabins, and storage than a Dragonfly 36 trimaran, and its payload sensitivity is less restrictive, tolerating extra gear and provisions without performance penalties.1:13
