The Beneteau 40, also known as the Oceanis 40 outside the US, is a fractional sloop with a fin w/bulb and spade rudder, built by Beneteau from 2007 to the present. Designed by Berret-Racoupeau, it measures 12.1 meters LOA with a 3.9-meter beam and 1.9-meter draft, displacing 8259 kg. A similar version was sold as the Moorings 41.3. Lady K Sailing notes that the Beneteau 40 is a budget-friendly production cruiser capable of offshore voyaging, built to CE Offshore Category A standards in Marion, South Carolina.7:42 It features a more modern interior layout and larger port lights than the Beneteau 423, but shares similar construction methods and potential issues with grid-to-hull delamination after hard groundings. Cruising Maya upgraded a 2018 Beneteau 40's house bank to lithium batteries, installing an external voltage regulator and a DC-to-DC charger to manage power for Starlink and other systems.1:06 Lady K Sailing observes that Yanmar hour meters on the Beneteau 40 frequently fail.
