A 38-ft sailboat navigates shallow sandbanks in the Exuma region of the Bahamas, requiring precise depth monitoring to avoid grounding. The crew, accompanied by a second vessel, relies on visual navigation and real-time depth reporting from the lead boat to traverse areas with as little as 0.7 to 1.2 meters of water. Despite the shallow conditions and shifting sandbars, the crew successfully reaches a remote anchorage in the Ragged Island chain. Following the transit, the owner repairs a malfunctioning windlass that had previously required manual operation. The repair involves using an angle grinder to cut the seized windlass shaft after traditional methods, including heat and lubricants, fail to loosen the component. The crew also documents snorkeling in a 20-meter deep Blue Hole surrounded by coral and encounters local marine life, including sharks and rays. The successful windlass repair restores the ability to operate the anchor via remote control, allowing the vessel to continue its passage toward the Dominican Republic.
