Qué cubre este vídeo
Maya and Aladino complete a stem-to-stern rebuild of Magic Carpet, a 28-foot sailboat, after traveling from Switzerland to begin the project. Rot discovered in the hull spreads far beyond the initial find — probing reveals the wood turns to mush, and successive floor removals expose structural damage that keeps compounding. Alaska yellow cedar beams replace the rotted originals alongside dark mahogany trim; the crew removes and reinstalls the holding tank after ripping out the entire sole and supporting structure. Interior work includes six-coat varnish on the chart table and doors, new countertops, and a full lighting installation. Each structural element — beams, plywood supports, floors — is checked for square before fastening. The rebuild proceeds in a shore-side apartment base, with the couple packing out and moving aboard only when the boat is ready to splash. The central lesson of the project: rot in a small wooden boat rarely stops where it first appears, and a realistic rebuild budget must account for cascading structural failures well beyond the visible damage.
