The crew of Nandji - Frothlyfe completes an Atlantic Ocean crossing, arriving at the Salvation Islands off the coast of French Guiana.0:02 After clearing customs online, they explore the historic penal colony on Ile Royale, the site that inspired the book Papillon.0:58 The crew must vacate the anchorage within 24 hours due to a scheduled rocket launch from the nearby mainland, which places their position directly in the flight path.10:32 They depart for a 100-nautical-mile transit to St. Laurent, opting to navigate upriver into the Amazon jungle rather than a shallower, riskier coastal town.10:57 Navigating the brown, murky river requires total reliance on charts, the depth sounder, and navigation markers, as shifting sandbanks make visual depth assessment impossible.20:16 Upon reaching St. Laurent, the crew secures the boat to a mooring to provision and rest.20:55 The transition from open-ocean sailing to river navigation highlights the necessity of constant vigilance regarding depth and shifting bottom topography in silt-heavy tropical river mouths.
