Micha and the crew of the boat arrive in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, after struggling with persistent engine failures during the passage from Iceland.1:49 The engine repeatedly lost fuel flow due to air leaks and contaminated fuel. A hairline crack in the fuel filter housing allowed the engine's mechanical lift pump to draw air into the system, causing the filter to remain only partially full.16:39 Additionally, the crew inadvertently contaminated their fuel supply by using canisters previously containing chlorine, which reacted with the diesel to create sludge and debris.17:24 To resolve these issues, Micha installed an auxiliary electric fuel pump to maintain pressure and facilitate fuel polishing while the boat is unattended.14:04 He also reconfigured the tank pickup tubes, prioritizing the heater intake at the bottom and raising the engine intake by 10 centimeters to avoid drawing up sediment.15:19 Cheap, disposable inline pre-filters now protect the primary water separator and the engine-mounted Volvo Penta filter.18:32 These modifications ensure a reliable fuel supply, which the crew considers critical for maneuvering in tight harbors and heavy weather.18:12
