Rigger climbs mast against cloudy sky in Mindelo
Ce que couvre cette vidéo
Reality departs Mindelo, Cabo Verde on 25 November, three and a half years into a circumnavigation that began in May 2022, after completing a full pre-Atlantic refit and a windex cable fault that took multiple attempts to resolve.35:08
The windex at the masthead had stopped returning wind speed and direction.6:45 The crew replaced the module first — no fix — then the windex unit itself, brought back from the UK by crew member Gary — still no fix.43:16 A marina rigger climbed the mast and confirmed the coaxial cable running the full length of the spar was the fault.42:38 Replacing that cable restored the instrument.44:00 The rigger accepted the crew's bosun's chair in lieu of his 120-euro fee.49:46 Fuel tanks were topped up at the marina fuel dock; with both tanks full, Reality can motor roughly 800 miles.21:51 The hull was cleaned by a dive crew dockside.38:04 Pre-departure jobs completed in an earlier haul-out included anti-fouling, new anodes, prop painting, engine and generator servicing, davit and swim-ladder upgrades, sail inspection, and reducing the mainsail from three reefs to two.46:27 A parasailor was also rigged and tested.47:07 The crew reviewed safety gear — deck bag with flares, VHF, and high-protein rations — and provisions before departure.50:49 The ARC Rally fleet of roughly 85 boats left Mindelo on 21 November bound for Grenada; Reality planned to follow four days later.16:59 Club Med 2 and a cruise ship named Serena were in port during the preparations, creating congestion for anchored yachts including a Sanoa 59.11:49
