Kent Blair repairs the hull and keel of a 13-foot 7-inch Alcort Super Sailfish. The restoration process focuses on sealing internal seams and filling structural voids to prepare the vessel for painting. Using Total Boat Thixo, a two-part thickened epoxy adhesive, he applies a bead along the mast step, the daggerboard trunk, and the interior deck edge seams. He uses a finger to smooth the epoxy into a fillet, preventing sagging or running. The keel, constructed of oak, features a longitudinal split and several old screw holes from previous nail-down points. Rather than replacing the entire keel, he fills the rot-damaged areas and voids with the epoxy to maintain structural integrity. He applies the adhesive into the nail holes to prevent future water collection and rot. After smoothing the filler with a paint stick to match the plank angle, the hull requires minimal sanding before the final paint application.
