To facilitate the repair, the owner inserts a silicone bung into the through-hull fitting from the outside to prevent water ingress while replacing the valve's O-ring. The family also conducts routine oil and filter changes on the engines, emphasizing the importance of keeping oil off drive belts to prevent slippage.
