Cosa tratta questo video
Jonas Muro Gomes completed the Mini Transat, a solo transatlantic race for 21-foot (6.5-meter) sailboats, using a Pogo 2 model.20:07 The race consists of two legs: the first from France to the Canary Islands, and the second from the Canaries to Guadeloupe.28:31 Gomes completed the first leg in 11 days and the second in 17 days.29:34 He prepared for the event by purchasing a pre-raced Pogo 2 in Barcelona, citing the model's reputation for reliability and structural integrity.20:04 During the campaign, he partnered with the "Velas para o Alzheimer" project, which provides nautical training to people with Alzheimer’s and their families, by carrying the organization's branding on his boat in exchange for maintenance and repair services.2:49
Gomes leveraged his professional background in the Merchant Marine to manage navigation and safety. He utilized his experience with paper chart plotting and radar to maintain situational awareness and relied on AIS to monitor and avoid commercial shipping traffic.31:22 He notes that small, unlit fishing vessels pose a greater collision risk than large commercial ships.33:14 The Mini Transat serves as a developmental class for offshore racing, with many participants moving on to IMOCA 60 and other professional circuits.34:18 The race prohibits modern luxuries, requiring sailors to manage basic needs like sanitation using buckets while maintaining high speeds in challenging sea states.38:59
