The crew of the 45-foot sailboat Plan C performs a series of maintenance tasks in a boatyard to prepare for an upcoming passage to the Bahamas. They service mast-mounted winches by disassembling the internal bearings and gears, cleaning them with mineral spirits, and repacking them with grease.6:12 To address a broken boom vang, the crew removes the unit, cleans a rusted internal spring, and replaces the wire rope assembly.9:26 They also install a new diesel fill hose and secure it with tight hose clamps.11:17 The electrical work includes routing solar panel wiring through a cockpit pass-through, crimping connectors, and connecting the array to a 60-amp MPPT solar charge controller with manual disconnect fuses.17:55 When attempting to remove a seized winch from the mast, the crew encounters galvanic corrosion between stainless steel screws and the aluminum housing; they use heat, impact drivers, and eventually cut the housing to remove the hardware.21:18 The crew also installs an 8-foot Shakespeare VHF antenna and adds foam padding to solar panel corners to prevent injury.25:27
