Johan and Malin encapsulate the floor beams of their 50-foot boat hull using 600g fiberglass cloth and epoxy.2:46 To ensure the fiberglass conforms to the complex shapes of the beams without air bubbles or gaps, they employ a vacuum bagging process.6:26 The layup sequence includes applying three layers of fiberglass, followed by a layer of peel ply, a perforated release film, a breather felt, and a vacuum bag sealed with butyl tape.8:21 Because of limited vacuum bagging supplies, they laminate the beams in alternating sequences to avoid stepping on uncured epoxy.7:11 Johan notes that the sapele wood used for the floor beams darkens significantly and turns deep red when coated with clear epoxy, a characteristic that influenced their decision to exclude the timber from the boat's interior.17:10 While waiting for additional vacuum materials, Johan prepares to cut the first bulkheads using a Shaper CNC router to verify the hull's dimensions against 3D design files.15:48
