Chilu and Eze, traveling through Ecuador in a motorhome, attempt a multi-day trekking expedition to Laguna Amarilla at Volcán El Altar. The pair arrives at the Hacienda Releche trailhead after navigating a muddy, difficult access road that forces them to park their vehicle well before the official start point. Despite registering with park authorities, they encounter severe trail degradation caused by heavy horse and mule traffic from private tour operators. Other hikers returning from the trail report that the path is impassable due to deep mud, and the private landowner denies them further passage. The couple decides to abandon the trek after several hours of hiking, citing the lack of intermediate camping options and the poor state of the trail. Earlier in the trip, the pair also attempted rock climbing at the Acantilado de San Juan, but failed to locate accessible routes due to a lack of detailed guidebooks and difficult terrain. The excursion concludes with a birthday celebration inside their motorhome. Poor trail maintenance by private horse-tour operators can render remote mountain paths impassable for hikers.
