The Isle of Dogs Sea Cadets unit recruits adult volunteers to support youth sailing, windsurfing, and canoeing at the Victoria Docks and Docklands Sailing Centre in London.Watch Paul, the unit's host, walks through the full onboarding process step by step. In winter, the unit requires a minimum of two adults to run indoor parade and classroom sessions; without a second adult, sessions are cancelled.1:36 The process begins with a P1 form — standard entry, unit listed as Isle of Dogs, category as unit assistant — submitted to Paul, who creates a file on the Westminster computer system.3:06 A DBS check follows via the MSSC portal using organisation reference MSSC 85 with a blank password; two identity documents are required.4:44 Volunteers then register on the Defence Gateway website, access the volunteers portal and learning portal, and complete four mandatory modules: adult induction, responsible for information, health and safety, and safeguarding, plus a virtual safeguarding Zoom session.6:04 All costs, including DBS and training courses, are covered by the unit under MOD insurance.1:11 Once DBS, references, P1, and induction modules are complete, volunteers are fully enrolled and eligible to accompany cadets to competitions and sailing courses at the Royal Docks.8:28
