O que este vídeo aborda
An orca grabbed the rudder of a Solaris 40 off the Portuguese coast, causing complete loss of steerage while the animal held on.1:27 Steve motored astern for 20 minutes to disorient the orcas and clear the boat.1:42 Both rudders sustained bite damage: one mark on the leading edge and one on the trailing edge of each.2:05 The rudder stock, rudder arm, cables, and bellows all checked out intact, though brown streaking on the hull near the rudder prompted a closer inspection with Jiff cleaner for gel coat cracks or pinholes — no water ingress was found.2:48 Replacement rudders were shipped from the yard in Italy.2:27 The plan is to haul the boat, drop both rudders from the lazarette, fit the new ones, and continue the delivery to Cowes before the 27th, the start of Cowes Week.2:32 Motoring astern appeared to disorient the orcas and end the attack.1:49
