They replace the seals and bearings on the bow thruster after discovering a failed spring caused a leak. Additionally, the crew installs a line cutter on the propeller shaft and repairs a corroded gray water tank through-hull fitting by reinforcing the surrounding fiberglass with epoxy and filler. The project includes testing a new copper-free, environmentally friendly bottom paint and a slick propeller coating to inhibit soft growth. While the boat remains in the yard, the crew stays in a borrowed apartment to accommodate their infant daughter. Proper surface preparation and the use of a vacuum sander significantly accelerate the removal of old bottom paint.
