Marking lengths on our new 5/16 BBB Stainless steel anchor chain

What this video covers

Gordon and the crew mark 300 feet of 5/16 BBB stainless steel anchor chain dockside on Epiphany, installing plastic snap-in chain markers at 50-foot increments so scope can be set accurately relative to depth.1:50 The markers are two-piece, male-and-female plastic inserts that snap into the center of a chain link using vise grips or pliers; the fit is tight enough that over-squeezing can crush them, so light pressure is better.2:44 Because the chain is destined for a windlass not yet installed, the crew cannot test whether the markers will survive passing over the gypsy, so they back each marker with zip ties as a redundancy — one zip tie at 50 feet, two at 75 feet, three at 100 feet, and so on.3:21 Stretching the chain along the dock allows accurate measurement before marking.1:01 A windy day that ruled out rudder installation made dockside chain work the practical alternative.Watch
