The C&C Yachts 39 is a 12.0-meter masthead sloop designed by Cuthertson, Cassian, and C&C Design, built between 1971 and 1974. With a fin keel and spade rudder, it displaces 7711 kg. Aboard *Epiphany*, a 1972 C&C Yachts 39, the crew anchors in the Exumas, Bahamas, managing electrical and water needs independently to avoid mooring fees. They perform maintenance such as replacing wind generator bearings, scrubbing the hull, and reinforcing the swim platform. The crew uses a 12.5-foot Bree inflatable dinghy with a 9.9-horsepower Mercury outboard for shore transit, repairing tears in its aluminum floor caused by abrasion. *Epiphany*’s crew conserves water by using a one-quart fresh water shower method, relying on saltwater for initial wetting and lathering. During a hurricane, the skipper of *Epiphany* ran the 10-ton boat through 12–16-foot seas to find shelter after the storm track shifted. The vessel has endured 30-knot winds with 50-knot gusts, during which a primary snubber line parted, but a secondary backup snubber held the 65-pound Lewmar claw anchor.
