What this video covers

Alison and John sail their Bavaria Yachts 36, Nova Vita, on a 38-mile passage from Roseau, Dominica, to Terre-de-Haut in the Iles des Saintes, Guadeloupe. The crew departs Roseau at 06:15, initially motoring past Portsmouth due to light winds. Once clear of the island, the wind fills in to 12–14 knots, allowing for a full-sail reach. As the vessel enters the channel between Dominica and Guadeloupe, wind speeds accelerate to 18–22 knots. The crew reefs both the mainsail and the headsail, which increases their speed to 7.5 knots while improving stability in the beam seas. They sail the entire distance, engaging the engine only to pick up a mooring buoy at Terre-de-Haut. Upon arrival, the crew prepares to clear customs in the Iles des Saintes. Reefing in 20 knots of wind maintains boat speed and comfort during the acceleration zone between islands.
