Propeller Antifouling - using Hempel Ecopower Prop. Did it work ?

May 10, 2024 · 2 min · 4K views

What this video covers

Dave applies Hempel Ecopower Prop to the bronze propeller of Zephyr IV to prevent marine growth after previous attempts with lanakote failed. The application process requires abrading the propeller surface to create a key before applying a primer and two coats of the spray-on antifouling paint. Upon hauling the boat out after one year, the propeller shows significantly less fouling compared to previous seasons, though some primer detached during pressure washing. The P-bracket and prop shaft experienced heavy growth, which Dave attributes to insufficient water movement for the hard antifouling paint to function effectively. He plans to use CJET 033 on the P-bracket and shaft for the next season to address this issue. Mark from Now Marine removes the existing propeller for a future replacement. Proper surface preparation and matching the antifouling type to the water flow around specific components determine the effectiveness of propeller protection.
