What this video covers

On the C&C 39 *Epiphany*, two decorative chrome chains supporting a custom hinged swim platform had rusted nearly through at their attachment points.0:29 Gordon measured the failed chains at 20 inches, cut replacements from heavier spare chain using an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel while holding the chain steady with vice grips, then swapped the new sections from the dinghy by unclipping the old chains at both ends.1:13 When the original links came off, one had corroded down to a single thread of metal.1:57 The replacement chain is galvanized and heavier gauge than the original chrome chain; the eye bolts and clips on the platform are stainless steel.2:10 The project was completed quickly and without incident.2:28 Catching corrosion at attachment points before failure matters most on load-bearing fittings where a break would drop someone into the water with no warning.
