What this video covers
The owners of the HH-44 catamaran *Curiosity* reached a buy-back agreement with HH Catamarans after experiencing persistent, catastrophic electrical and structural failures. The vessel, hull number three, suffered from severe stray current corrosion that pitted aluminum mast components, rusted stainless steel fittings, and caused rapid anode depletion. Mechanical issues included leaking fuel, engine coolant sludge, and a failed hybrid electric drive system that resulted in an at-sea emergency involving swelling batteries and a loss of propulsion. Additional defects included delaminating solar panels, a malfunctioning fridge, and a mainsail that proved difficult to operate. Despite multiple repair attempts at HH facilities in the Philippines, the boat spent seven months in the yard, disrupting the owners' ability to maintain their business operations. HH Catamarans has since hired marine experts Nigel Calder and James Cote to investigate the systemic issues and restore confidence in the model. Persistent stray current and electrical integration flaws can render a new, high-performance catamaran unseaworthy and commercially unviable.
