The Bavaria Yachts 390 is a 12.2-meter fractional sloop designed by Axel Mohnhaupt and built by Bavaria Yachts since 1990. Originally popular in the charter trade, the 390 has a fin keel with a spade rudder, a 4.0-meter beam, and an 8000 kg displacement. Its standard draft is 1.8 meters, though a 1.5-meter shallow draft keel was also available. The main sail is 37 sqm, the jib 28 sqm, and the genoa 50 sqm. The Bavaria 390, like other production boats, uses a stringer-and-matrix system to distribute keel loads, which can delaminate from the hull.2:51 Surveyors inspecting used boats should check for rusty keel bolts, ovaled bolt holes, stress cracks in the bilge glasswork, and signs of delamination.6:52
