The Westerly Yachts Ltd. Discus 33 is a 10.1-meter masthead sloop designed by Laurent Giles and built by Westerly Yachts Ltd. from 1979 to 1984, offered with either a fin or twin keel. It is an aft cockpit variant of the Westerly 33. Aboard *Sea Dream of Clyde*, the crew installed 400 watts of solar panels on the cockpit lifelines, routing wiring through the aft cockpit combing to support Starlink and a freezer.6:50 The crew sails the Discus 33 in varied conditions, from the Gulf of California to Alaskan waters, managing reefing in gusty conditions and navigating squalls and adverse currents.4:16 They use a Hydrovane for self-steering and prioritize sailing off the anchor to conserve engine hours.1:44 Maintenance includes gluing Treadmaster decking, repairing sails, and tensioning the rigging to address headstay bow.17:40 The crew has replaced a corroded seacock valve in the water, using a wooden bung to seal the through-hull.1:46 They frequently adapt passage plans due to fluctuating winds and "nortes" in the Gulf of California, often seeking protected anchorages and monitoring AIS for collision avoidance.16:37
