The Herreshoff 12 1/2 is a classic gaffhead sloop daysailer designed by Nathanael G. Herreshoff, first built in 1914 by Herreshoff Manufacturing. It has a long keel with a transom-hung rudder, an LOA of 4.8 meters, a beam of 1.8 meters, a draft of 0.8 meters, and displaces 567 kg. Original production ran until 1948, with later boats built by Cape Cod Shipbuilding and Quincy Adams Yacht Yard. While gaff rigs were standard until 1936, later models offered a choice of gaff or Marconi rigs, and class rules permit a 140 sq. ft. spinnaker.10:16 Fiberglass derivatives like the BULLSEYE and the DOUGH DISH exist, with DOUGH DISH boats approved to race alongside original wooden boats.
