The Macgregor 26D is a 26-foot fractional sloop with a daggerboard hull, designed by Roger Macgregor and built by Macgregor Yacht Corp. from 1986 onward. It features a water ballast system, which allows the boat to be light enough for trailering and ramp launching, and can accommodate an outboard motor up to 50 horsepower, enabling planing speeds of 15 to 20 knots when the 1,200-pound water ballast is drained.2:19 The boat's construction uses thin fiberglass and minimal structural members, but it includes positive flotation. Its interior provides a v-berth, a small galley, and a head, prioritizing functional, lightweight camping over offshore capability.5:27 In 1990, the 26D was modified with a centerboard, becoming the Macgregor 26S; combined production of the D and S models made the Macgregor 26 one of the most widely produced sailboats of its size. Aboard Adventureman Dan, Daniel sold his Beneteau First 38 to purchase a Macgregor 26X, drawn by its trailerability and ability to avoid boatyards, and later planned to bring his Macgregor 26D to the Bahamas.0:40
