The Macgregor 26X is a 7.9-meter fractional sloop sailboat designed by Roger Macgregor and built by Macgregor Yachts Inc. from 1995 to 2003. This sail/power hybrid features a centerboard hull, water ballast, and is rated for outboards from 5 to 50 horsepower. Aboard *Adventureman Dan*, a Macgregor 26X was purchased for $6,500 and used for extensive cruising on Lake Champlain, navigating shallow inlets and open water, reaching speeds of 8.1 knots under sail. The boat's shallow draft of nine inches with the centerboard up and ballast tanks empty allows for beaching and river exploration, though striking submerged logs and rocks is a risk. Crews often use a 400-watt folding solar array and a Bluetti power bank for onboard electronics. The boat sleeps seven across a V-berth, dinette, and aft cabin, and its enclosed head includes a shower. Owners plan upgrades such as bow storage, inflatable stern docks, bimini solar arches, and electrical system improvements for extended cruising, including trips from Maine to Florida and to the Bahamas.
