The builders of a custom long-distance sailboat used two mushroom load cells to determine the current hull weight and longitudinal center of gravity during the construction phase.▶ 3:24 By lifting the bow and stern separately on cradles, they measured a total weight of 3,662 kilograms, which fell 202 kilograms below their initial estimate of 3,864 kilograms.▶ 13:24 The process required leveling the hull with a laser to ensure accurate readings, as uneven floor surfaces initially caused significant weight discrepancies between the port and starboard sides.▶ 10:15 With the current center of gravity marked on the hull, the builders plan to monitor how future installations—such as the engine, batteries, and water tanks—shift the balance relative to the design center of buoyancy.▶ 20:07 This data helps ensure the finished vessel achieves the correct trim and waterline. The project also hosted an open house at Sunhill Farm for approximately 100 patrons to view the ongoing build.▶ 16:07
