Mac and Jenny, owners of a 1980 Allbird 37 named Maya, plan to depart Anacortes in early April 2021 for a multi-stage voyage to Southeast Alaska and eventually Mexico.8:58 The itinerary begins with a transit to Ketchikan by early Maya, followed by several months of cruising in Alaska.8:58 After the northern season, the pair intends to sail south along the California coast to reach the Sea of Cortez for the winter.9:07 This route follows three years of local cruising in the San Juan Islands and a circumnavigation of Vancouver Island, during which the crew logged over 2,500 miles and 150 nights at anchor.8:29 To facilitate major refits, including the replacement of chain plate knees, the couple moved into a house in Anacortes to clear the boat of gear.7:20 They currently face logistical challenges regarding the closed Canadian border as they prepare for the upcoming departure.9:44
