The Alberg 37 is a Carl Alberg-designed masthead sloop with a long keel, built by Whitby Boat Works Ltd. from 1967 to 1988. It measures 11.3 meters LOA, with a 3.1-meter beam, 1.7-meter draft, and 7620 kg displacement. The Mark I (1967-1971) and Mark II variants were produced, with the Mark II featuring less wood and more molded fiberglass components, including a molded floor support, overhead liner, and fiberglass toerail. Engine options included a 23hp Volvo MD2B, 27hp Volvo MD 11C, or an optional 40hp Westerbeke 4-107. Aboard *Cruising Maya*, the 1980 Alberg 37 *Maya* has undergone extensive maintenance, including refinishing teak handrails, comprehensive engine work, and structural fiberglass repairs to chain plate mounts.0:33 The crew sailed *Maya* 634 nautical miles from Fury Cove, British Columbia, to Foggy Bay, Alaska, and later transited from Gut Bay to Sitka, Alaska, and across the Sea of Cortez to Mazatlan, Mexico.9:02 They emphasize the importance of timing passages through high-current areas like Sergius Narrows using current-specific data in Navionics.11:57
