Petter Gustafsson secured an overall victory in the Færderseilasen 2025 regatta sailing a J/99, marking a transition from his previous J/111.0:07 During the race, Gustafsson’s crew faced significant competition from the boat Fri, which maintained a 20-minute lead by the time the fleet reached Filtvet. To recover, the J/99 crew opted for a tactical route down the center of the fjord to maximize wind pressure, executing approximately 100 jibes while the majority of the fleet hugged the eastern shore. This strategy allowed them to overtake the competition and finish 10 minutes ahead of their rivals. Gustafsson attributes the win to positioning on the racecourse rather than boat speed advantages in light air. While he utilizes weather routing and data analysis for preparation, he emphasizes that real-time visual observation of wind conditions remains the primary factor for success during the race.
