A broken stainless steel band clamp on the Universal MP 25 XPB diesel engine of a C&C 39 caused the heat exchanger to vibrate against its saddle bracket, wearing a hole in the copper-nickel housing.1:16 After identifying the leak using a pressure test kit, the heat exchanger was removed and the end caps were detached to protect the rubber gaskets from heat damage.2:07 Debris from a previously failed impeller was cleared from the tubes, and the unit was flushed with fresh water to ensure clear flow.2:47 The crack was repaired by drilling small holes at each end to prevent propagation, grinding a V-groove with a cutting wheel, and soldering the seam.4:00 To prevent future chafing, two layers of self-adhesive rubber padding were wrapped around the heat exchanger before securing it back into the saddle brackets with new clamps.6:34 A 30-minute test run confirmed the cooling system is leak-free.6:54
