Mads and Ava spent 2024 cruising the Caribbean aboard their 44-foot catamaran, Athena, before transitioning to a major restoration project on a hurricane-damaged catamaran in Florida. The year began in Trinidad with cosmetic cabin upgrades, sail drive anti-fouling, and the acquisition of a 3D printer for small repairs.1:37 After sailing north to St. Lucia, Martinique, and the BVI, the crew upgraded their dinghy outboard to a 15-horsepower Yanmar and utilized a tankless dive system for hull maintenance.3:11 Mads earned an ABYC marine electrical certification while in the BVI.5:08 Upon returning to Florida, the couple navigated complex paperwork to purchase a project catamaran, eventually clearing the vessel with the help of volunteers.7:51 They established a mobile workshop in an enclosed trailer and began structural repairs, including replacing a damaged tramp ramp and building stairs for easier access.10:42 The year concluded with a road trip from Florida to Michigan in a 25-year-old CR-V.12:20
