Ce que couvre cette vidéo
Jan Attenstedt and Nigel Calder discuss the dangers of improper AC electrical installations on a 1980 Mariner sailboat. The owner proposes combining neutral and grounding bus bars on the AC panel, a practice common in domestic shore-based panels but hazardous on a boat. Calder explains that neutral and grounding circuits must remain separate on the vessel and should only be bonded at the power source, such as the shore power pedestal, an isolation transformer, or an inverter. Because shore power connections can suffer from reverse polarity, the boat’s AC system requires a polarity-indicating light and a two-pole main breaker that disconnects both the hot and neutral conductors.Watch Failure to isolate these circuits can energize the neutral side of the system, creating a lethal shock hazard for anyone in the water near the boat. When in doubt, owners should hire a marine electrician to ensure the system meets safety standards.
