Johan and Malin are preparing their barn for the lamination of a 50-foot custom sailboat hull by organizing 540 kilograms of epoxy resin and hardener.1:08 To manage the workspace temperature and humidity, they are constructing an insulated "room within a room" using vapor barrier plastic sheeting attached to the barn walls and ceiling.13:43 They are sealing wind leaks in the barn structure, including broken windows and damaged wind barrier cloth, to improve thermal efficiency.18:42 For climate control, they are installing a 30-kilowatt diesel heater with an external heat exchanger to vent exhaust safely while circulating warm air under the hull.15:26 They plan to monitor moisture levels with hygrometers and chemical dehumidifiers to ensure optimal curing conditions.16:02 During testing, Johan found that 80-grit 3M Cubitron ceramic sanding paper provided a higher removal rate on epoxy than 40-grit Mirka Galaxy paper, which struggled to penetrate the hard surface.10:56
