The S&s 34 is a 10.2-meter masthead sloop designed by Sparkman & Stephens, with a fin keel and rudder on skeg, built from 1968 to the present. The design, Sparkman & Stephens #1959, was produced by multiple yards globally, including Aquafibre in the UK and Swarbrick Brothers in Australia, resulting in variants like the Palmer Johnson 34 in the US. The Aquafibre version features a slightly raised doghouse, while the Australian version has an uninterrupted cabin trunk. The S&s 34 has been noted as a capable and affordable vessel for long-distance sailing, with some examples available for $15,000 to $20,000.7:50 While some Sparkman & Stephens designs from the International Offshore Rule (IOR) era prioritized racing handicaps over cruising seaworthiness, the S&s 34 is considered a proven design capable of circumnavigation.
