Johan and Malin complete the keel grid lamination for their boat build, transitioning from structural stringer work to interior bulkhead installation.21:19 The process involves laminating stringers in cold conditions, requiring a temporary plastic enclosure around the hull and a 25–30 kilowatt diesel heater to maintain an internal temperature of 13–14 degrees Celsius.15:17 To improve efficiency, the team uses a saturation table equipped with an infrared heater to pre-saturate fiberglass layers before application.7:43 Despite these preparations, the work proves time-consuming due to the complex geometry of the stringers, which feature 90-degree corners and limber holes.11:57 Vacuum bagging the laminate presents further challenges, exacerbated by a degrading vacuum pump that struggles to evacuate air quickly, forcing the crew to meticulously seal even minor leaks to maintain proper pressure.20:26 After three days of intensive labor, the keel grid is finalized, marking the end of the structural foundation phase.19:29
