The Hylas 49 is a Sparkman & Stephens-designed cutter-rigged sailboat, built by Queen Long Marine and Hylas Yachts USA from 1992 to the present, and is an updated version of the Hylas 47. It has a fin keel with a rudder on a skeg, measures 14.9 meters LOA with a 4.3-meter beam, and draws 1.9 meters. The boat displaces 14,500 kg. Aboard a friend's Hylas 49, a crew experienced an electrical fire in the engine room one mile outside Cordova Harbor, Alaska, during a sail-to-ski trip in Prince William Sound. The fire, which originated from wiring beneath the floorboards, was extinguished after 300 gallons of saltwater were pumped into the boat, following advice from a commercial fisherman.
