Departing from Kilada, they cover 10–12 miles to Portocheli, then set out on a 20-mile leg toward Hydra. From Hydra they sail west to the island of Dokos — nearly uninhabited, with a landscape described as highland-like — where they anchor and practice anchoring under sail to reduce engine dependence. Wind pushes the boat against a wall at one anchorage; they judge it unsafe after a long passage and move on. The next leg targets Monemvasia on the Peloponnese coast, roughly 40 miles away, with a stop at a beach called Fukiano where a single taverna is still closed for the pre-season. Pre-season sailing in the Saronic Gulf is noted as relaxed, with anchorages uncrowded and conditions light.
