What this video covers

Sven Yrvind details the evolution of his boat ventilation systems over 50 years, culminating in a new design intended to prevent water ingress during a capsize. The first generation, developed after a 1974 storm near Cape Horn, utilized a tube extending to the bottom of the hull to keep the interior dry when inverted. Subsequent iterations included a water lock system on the aluminum boat and the Amphibie Breeze, followed by a surge tank design to manage green water accumulation during long passages in the North Atlantic. The current sixth-generation system incorporates a mechanism designed to function like an Archimedes pump if the vessel capsizes. Yrvind plans to finalize the technical drawings for this configuration with the assistance of Petter. The design history spans multiple vessels, including the Pittsburgh and various experimental builds, reflecting a half-century of refinement in small-boat safety and air circulation.
