The C&C Yachts 40-1 is a masthead sloop designed by C&C Design and built by C&C Yachts from 1970 to the present, featuring a fin keel with a spade rudder. This earlier C&C 40 model, similar to the CRUSADER 40, has a rudder attached to the keel and a small bowsprit, distinguishing it from later C&C 40 designs produced after 1977. It was not built in great numbers. With an LOA of 12.1 m, a beam of 3.6 m, and a draft of 2.1 m, it displaces 8523 kg. Aboard Be The Captain, the C&C 40-1 is noted as an IOR-inspired design that heels aggressively and offers limited interior space due to a pinched stern, making it potentially unsuitable for offshore cruising.10:04 Practical Sailor mentions the C&C 40 as one of the models built with balsa-cored hulls, a construction method C&C Yachts used to increase stiffness and reduce weight.7:57
