The C&C Yachts 40-1 is a masthead sloop designed by C&C Design and built by C&C Yachts from 1970 to the present, featuring a fin keel with a spade rudder. This earlier version of the C&C 40, similar to the CRUSADER 40, was not built in great numbers and is distinct from later C&C 40 models produced after 1977.4:49 It has a LOA of 12.1 m, a beam of 3.6 m, a draft of 2.1 m, and displaces 8523 kg.5:22 Aboard *Practical Sailor*, the C&C 40 (1978–1983 model) is described as a dual-purpose racer-cruiser with a deep seven-foot keel and a teak-ply interior, avoiding the extreme hull distortions common in its IOR era.8:32 Owners often modify the C&C 40 for cruising by adding Solent stays, increasing fuel capacity with bladders, and upgrading electrical systems.9:19 The deep draft limits shallow-water cruising, but the boat offers high-performance sailing. *Be The Captain* notes that IOR-inspired designs like the C&C 40 heel aggressively and offer limited interior space due to pinched sterns.10:04
