What the fleet has seen

The RM Yachts 1180 is a 40-foot performance cruiser designed by Marc Lombard, built in France since 2019. It features a cutter rig, a fin keel with a bulb, and dual rudders.6:14 The 11.8-meter LOA yacht has a 4.4-meter beam, a 2.2-meter draft, and displaces 7700 kg. Its hybrid construction combines marine-grade plywood with epoxy-glass composites; the hull bottom uses plywood-epoxy for impact resistance, while the topsides are molded epoxy-glass for complex shapes.2:21 This construction eliminates heavy internal grid systems, creating a lighter, stiffer hull that reduces flexing upwind.3:15 The plywood core provides natural thermal insulation, minimizing condensation and maintaining interior temperatures.3:53 The wood is fully encapsulated in epoxy, and the hull is painted, protecting it from rot and allowing for straightforward repairs.5:05 Interior bulkheads are integrated into a monocoque shell, prioritizing weight efficiency and performance.7:02
