The O'day 39 is a masthead sloop designed by Philippe Briand, built by O'Day Corp. from 1982 to 1985. It has an LOA of 11.8 m, a beam of 3.8 m, a draft of 1.9 m, and a displacement of 8164 kg. The O'day 39 was built under license from Jeanneau and sold in France as the Sun Fizz, as both companies were owned by Bangor Punta. It was later redesigned by Hunt Assoc. as the O'day 40.2:31 The O'day 40, a 39.5-foot masthead sloop, features a 12.5-foot beam and 18,000-pound displacement, powered by a 46-horsepower Westerbeke diesel.3:35 It offers 6.5-foot headroom and a U-shaped saloon with a sugar scoop transom.5:32 With a 26.96 comfort ratio and 1.93 capsize screening, the O'day 40 is considered a coastal cruiser.4:02 Its construction includes a fiberglass structural grid and balsa-cored decks.6:38 The O'day 40 is known for predictable sailing and manageable handling in 12–15 knots of breeze.4:46 Approximately 180 units of the O'day 40 were produced.2:31
