The Westsail 32 is a William Crealock-designed fiberglass cutter, built from 1971 to 1981, known for its long keel and transom-hung rudder. It is an adaptation of William Atkin's THISTLE design, with 834 hulls produced, including 400 sold as kits. Jerome Rand singlehands his Westsail 32, *Into Oblivion*, on passages in the North Atlantic, managing squalls with a double-reefed main and staysail, and navigating heavy shipping traffic near Cape Cod using Navionics and paper charts.30:50 Aboard *Into Oblivion*, Rand uses Starlink for connectivity and a Jetboil when propane runs low.8:28 He performs daily sextant sights and boat inspections, and has replaced mast-mounted plates for the staysail stay.19:48 Another solo sailor, Josh Wright, crossed the Pacific in his Westsail 32, integrating a Cape Horn windvane and managing a power failure caused by excessive bilge pump use.8:13
