Chafe on anchor lines at the bowsprit is the problem Gordon addresses by installing two new line chocks on the C&C Yachts 39 Epiphany.Watch The original boat had chocks, but the added bowsprit left an exposed aluminum angle where a snubber line could saw back and forth and wear through — a chafe wrap was a workaround, not a fix.0:15 Gordon buys two new chocks and mounts them directly on the angle so any line runs straight through a chock instead of riding the bare metal edge.0:40 Hardware is all stainless steel in 3/16-inch size, secured with nylon lock nuts to prevent loosening. Because the bowsprit angle is aluminum, he marks hole locations with a Sharpie, uses a spring-loaded center punch to dimple the metal and keep the drill bit centered, then drills and bolts both chocks through with an impact gun. The result is a straight, protected lead for the anchor snubber that eliminates the need for emergency chafe wraps. Fitting chocks directly to a bowsprit angle is a faster and more reliable chafe solution than wrapping the line after the fact.
